How will I get there?

All children and young people taking part will be offered transport from prearranged collection points across England to the activity centres, using coaches. The children will be supervised from the collection points  all the way to the centres and during their return.

How will it be supervised?

All children and young people taking part will be teamed up with seven others, making a group of eight. Each group of eight children will have a team leader who will be with them during the length of their stay, taking part in all the same activities as the children. The activities will be run by experienced specialist instructors, who are used to working with children and young people. As well as the team leader and activities, the centre staff will be working to make sure the stay is comfortable and that good food is available every day.

Who runs the Do it 4 Real scheme?

The scheme is run by the Youth Hostels Association's fully qualified staff, providing young people with a safe and stimulating environment where they can learn new skills and develop self confidence at their own pace, making new friends from different backgrounds to their own. Most importantly, Do it 4 Real is about having fun.

What health and safety measures are in place?

YHA insists on high standards in health and safety management at all centres, based on legislation and guidelines set down by the Department for education and Skills. All of our activity providers have the relevant licenses (for example, the outdoor activity providers are licensed through the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority (AALA)).
